DORIAN BARTLEY (Vocals-Bass) created The doRiaN Mode in 2013 to play vintage jazz, swing and early R&B. She was born in Detroit to a mixed-race academic family surrounded by the musical riches of black culture, folk and classical traditions. Using music to express her biracial identity, she sings and performs on the upright bass. She also works in other musical styles: country-Americana with Foxes in the Henhouse, classical with Gravenstein Mandolin Ensemble and eclectic freelance groups around the Bay Area. Dorian studied at the University of Michigan and UC Berkeley and taught music in Petaluma’s public schools. Contact: Dorian can be reached using the email system below!

BOB JOHNS (Piano-Trumpet) took piano lessons from an early age and learned to improvise by listening to his dad's trumpet-playing and record collection. When he arrived in San Francisco after serving in the navy, Bob found like-minded players who formed the fusion group, Nexus, playing in San Francisco and the East Bay through the 80s. He played keys and trombone for a time in the African group, Hedzoleh Soundz. Bob's virtuosity is fundamental to The doRiaN Mode. He also plays each Tuesday night with his jazz buddies at the Comstock Saloon in San Francisco's North Beach and routinely with The Tom Leps Jazz Band & New Horizons concert band. He hosts an Open Mic once a month in Petaluma at the United Methodist Church.

DAVID SYDNEY SCOTT (Sax-Flute-Vocals) was born in Sydney, Australia, began studying the saxophone when he was 10 years old and started working professionally at age 17 in a hit rock and roll band, The Leemen. He left Australia to travel the world playing jazz music in Japan, Hong Kong and New Caledonia where he joined the Tivoli dance orchestra. His next move was to Tahiti where he played for Zizou de Maeyer, owner of the famous Zizou nightclub. David came to the United States by way of Hawaii and settled in Sonoma County where he lives and performs with The doRiaN Mode, Gator Nation, and his own group, Collaboration Jazz Band.

TONY BLAKE (Percussion) was born and raised in San Francisco. His percussive expression is wide-ranging and diverse as he plays in symphony orchestras, small jazz ensembles, folk, rock and world music groups. Tony is a member of Sonoma County Philharmonic, the premier volunteer orchestra of the North Bay Area. He also plays with the Celtic fusion band, Greenhouse, as well as a Bavarian Fest Band. Tony provides the beat for The doRiaN Mode and uses much of his free time to travel around the Bay Area making music. He lives in Petaluma and works as an Environmental Scientist.
